About us

We are a small tax and accounting practice based in Lancashire, servicing clients nationally.  We specialise in serving the needs of property investors and small businesses.  As a small practice, we offer old-fashioned personal service combined with up-to-date tax expertise and a down-to-earth business approach.

Meet the team …

Stephen Fay ACA - Principal
Stephen trained with Arthur Andersen, one of the ‘Big 4’ international accountancy firms, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1999 (hence the ‘ACA’ qualification).

Stephen started the practice in 2005, and is the single point of contact for all clients.  Stephen has been a property investor since 1999, and the practice now specialises in serving other property investors, as well as small businesses.

When he is not working, Stephen likes to play football with his son, follow Manchester United, and indulge his love of real ales.

Michelle Fay BSc – Office Manager
Michelle is Stephen’s wife and is the ‘production manager’ for the practice.  Michelle’s role is to ensure that the practice runs smoothly, with all client, HMRC and Companies House deadlines and requirements understood, recorded and dealt with.  With a large client base, this is a challenge!  Fortunately, Michelle’s previous role before joining the practice was as a Management Consultant and so she is has set up systems and processes to ensure calm and order in the office!

When she is not working, Michelle is a mum to her son Kayleb Fay (see below), and manages the property portfolio and renovation activities.  Michelle also enjoys relaxing in the bath and watching ‘Sex in the City’.

James Fay – Accounts Assistant
James is an accounts assistant and also helps to keep the practice ticking over. James deals with the post, banks cheques, issues and receives Engagement Letters, checks client HMRC accounts for tax rebates to be paid, and generally keeps the office ship-shape.

He is learning the basics of accounts preparation and tax-planning, and is known for his friendly nature and sense of humour.

In his spare time, James enjoys keeping fit, boxing, and supporting Arsenal FC.

Matthew Brown – Trainee Accountant
Matthew is a trainee accountant and helps to prepare draft accounts for review and completion by Stephen.  Matthew also ensures that new clients are set up on our system, deals with HMRC client authorisations, and generally does all the jobs that Stephen doesn’t want to do!  We all have to start somewhere!

Matthew is also a property enthusiast and likes to get his hands dirty with DIY and whenever possible.  He enjoys watching rugby and a good bottle of red wine in his spare time.

Christopher Wilkinson – IT Support
Christopher provides IT support to the practice, ensuring that the computers, printers, software, scanners, photocopiers, HMRC interface, and goodness knows what else are working.  If there is an IT problem to solve, Christopher is on hand with a furrowed brow and an instant action plan.  As a modern practice, we use email extensively, and file online wherever possible with HMRC and Companies House.  Christopher ensures that all lights are on, beeping noises are dealt with, and all information is protected and backed up as required.

When Christopher is not working, he enjoys tinkering with his computer collection, and buying anything made by Apple computers.

Kayleb Fay
Kayleb is our youngest trainee and looks to be following in his father’s accountant footsteps, if his counting progress is anything to go by.  While his eating habits are still a work in progress, if a client’s question requires a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, he is fine.  Anything requiring a coherent sentence needs to be referred to Stephen!

Kayleb like to watch Peppa Pig, play with his Thomas the Tank Engine trains, and feed the ducks in Stanley Park.
